Jake Burger and his wife, Ashlyn, founded ‘The Burger Family Foundation’ in March of 2025. Inspired by the birth of their daughter, Penelope, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome, the foundation aims to support and celebrate families like the Burger’s in meaningful ways. Through direct financial assistance, therapy, community, and the healing power of ranch life, The Burger Family Foundation is already building spaces that foster hope, purpose, and belonging. As of this year, Jake is the only active Major League Baseball player to have a child diagnosed with Down syndrome.
The financial support wing of the foundation, Pens Pearls, provides direct assistance to families navigating the unique joys and challenges of raising a child with a disability. The family is also working towards opening ‘The Lucky Ranch’, which will be a haven for disabled individuals and their families. The combining equine therapy, specialized programs, and community support to create a one-of-a-kind experience.
On April 4, Jake and Ashlyn partnered with the Texas Rangers and their exclusive concessionaire, Delaware North Sportservice, to ensure that a portion of the proceeds from every Jake Burger jersey sold at Globe Life Field this season will be donated to The Burger Family Foundation. The Burger’s also announced that day a partnership with the Rangers to host ‘Down Syndrome Day at the Ballpark’ at Globe Life Field on August 10, 2025. Fans who purchase tickets to that day’s home game against the Philadelphia Phillies through this link will receive a custom ‘Down Syndrome Awareness Day’ cap provided by The Burger Family Foundation.
Throughout the 2025 season, Jake has dedicated time on road trips to visit ‘GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center’ locations across the country. The nationwide tour will feature appearances by several of Jake’s Rangers teammates.

Jacob deGrom helped underwrite the Legacy All-Star Baseball Project at the Rangers Youth Academy in the summer of 2024. The academy's fields are well-maintained, but the original grass field presents challenges due to Texas springs and summers, which can lead to rainouts or droughts. Jacob’s contribution funded the installation of turf on the full 60 x 90 field and stripes to accommodate three 12U games simultaneously. This enhancement significantly improved the academy's ability to host 12U teams for games, programming, and practice. The field primarily serves Rangers Youth Academy programming, partner Mercy Street Youth League, and Dallas ISD games, greatly enhancing its overall impact on the community.
